These are directions for a pair of women's medium pair of socks (8 1/2 inches). You can certainly adjust the length for a larger or smaller pair. These would also make rather nice men's socks if you used 72 sts instead of the recommended 64 sts. These directions are for single color socks. However, you could easily knit them in two colors by using a MC for the knit sts and a CC for the purl sts.

Materials:
100g Stahl's Socka Sport or other sockweight yarn

Set of 4 dpn's in 2.5mm and 3mm (or size needed for gauge)

Gauge:
7.5 sts per inch in stocking stitch using larger needles

Texture Stitch Pattern:
Rnds 1-2: K4,P4. Repeat
Rnds 3-4: K3, P4, K1. Repeat

Rnds 5-6: K2, P4, K2. Repeat
Rnds 7-8: K1, P4, K3. Repeat
Rnds 9-10: P1, K4, P3. Repeat
Rnds 11-12: P2, K4, P2. Repeat
Rnds 13-14: P3, K4, P1. Repeat
Rnds 15-16: P4, K4. Repeat

Directions:
With smaller dpns, CO 64 sts. Divide sts as follows: Needle 1, 16 sts; Needle 2, 32 sts; Needle 3, 16 sts. Join without twisting sts. Work in K1, P1 rib for 2 inches.

Change to larger dpns and work Texture Stitch Pattern until sock measures 7 inches from beginning (if using 72 sts and making men's socks, work until 8 inches long).

Heel: Transfer sts from Needles 1 & 3 onto one needle for heel. Work back and forth across heel sts as follows:

Row 1: *Sl1, K1. Repeat.
Row 2: Sl1, P to end.

Repeat Rows 1 & 2 until heel is 2 1/4 inches, ending with second row.

Shape Heel:
Row 1: K18, SSK, K1, turn
Row 2: Sl1, P5, P2tog, P1, turn
Row 3: Sl1, K6, SSK, K1, turn
Row 4: Sl1, P7, P2tog,P1, turn

Continue as established, working 1 more stitch in the middle and decreasing 1 stitch each row until all sts are worked. (The decrease is made with 1 stitch before and after the space on each row created by the decrease in the previous row.) End with a purl row.

With right side of work facing you and starting with the heel sts, knit around, picking up and knitting 1 stitch for every edge stitch on both sides of heel (remember to work in established Textured Stitch Pattern when knitting across the instep.

Redistribute the sts (if necessary) as follows:

Needle 1: 16 heel sts and picked up sts from left side of heel.
Needle 2: 32 instep sts
Needle 3: picked up sts from right side of heel and 16 heel sts.

Next Round:
Needle 1: K to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1
Needle 2: cont. established texture stitch pattern
Needle 3: K1, SSK, K to end

Next Round:
Needle 1: K even
Needle 2: cont. established texture stitch pattern
Needle 3: K even

Repeat these two rnds, working dec's on Needle 1 and Needle 3 of every alt rnd and working the established texture stitch pattern on Needle 2 until 64 sts remain (16 sts on Needle 1, 32 sts on Needle 2, and 16 sts on Needle 3).

Repeat second round until measures 7 inches from heel.

Toe: Round 1: Needle 1: Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; Needle 2: K1, SSK, Knit to last 3 sts, K2tog, K1; Needle 3: K1, SSK, Knit to end. Round 2: K even.

Repeat Rnds 1 and 2 until toe measures 1 1/2 inches.

K sts from Needle 1 onto Needle 3.

Graft sts of toe.

Knit another sock to match!
