Materials:
Size 7 needles
One skein cotton yarn (Barbara used Bernat Handicrafter)
Pattern:
Cast on 41 stitches.
Knit four rows in garter stitch.
Begin pattern, keeping 3 stitches on either side in garter stitch for
frame cloth.
Row 1 (right side): K4, * yf, sl1, k2tog, psso, yf, k3; repeat from
* to last stitch, k1.
Rows 2 and 4: Purl.
Row 3: K1, * yf, sl1, k2tog, psso, yf, k3; repeat from * to last 4
stitches; yf, sl1, k2tog, psso, yf, k1.
Repeat these four rows 12 times.
Knit four rows of garter stitch.
Bind off loosely in purl stitch.
This pattern is from The Harmony Guides, 450 Knitting Stitches, Volume 2, page 51. It is a stitch multiple of 6 + 5 if you want to change the size. I think this would make a BEAUTIFUL placemat!!
