Materials:
Peaches n Creme (or any cotton yarn)
US# 7 needles
Pattern:
Cast on 36 sts. This number includes the border stitches. Knit each
row until you have 2 ridges showing on the right side of your cloth. Begin
pattern with a right side row.
Row 1 (RS): K 3 sts (border), *K 3, Sl 1 as if to purl * across row, to last 5 sts, K 2, K 3 for border sts.
Row 2: K 3 (border), P 30 sts, K 3 (border).
Repeat these 2 rows until your cloth is just about your desired length. Knit all sts for 4 rows (right side showing 2 ridges). Bind off on wrong side.
Variation # 1:
Cast on 36 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K 3 (border sts), *K 2, Sl 1 as if to purl * across row,
to last 6 sts, K to end of row.
Row 2: K 3 (border sts), P 30 sts, K 3 (border).
Variation # 2:
I've been fooling around with the variation, because although I still
like the plain St St at the end of the row before the border stitches,
sometimes my fingers want to add another slipped stitch
in there. So, in order for this to work, I cast on 37 sts, just for
this Variation --
then the first row would read: K 3 (border sts), *K 2, Sl 1 as if to
purl * across row, to last 4 sts, K to end of row.
Second Row:
K 3, P 31 sts, K 3.
Variation # 3:
On 34 sts.
Row 1: K 3 (border), * K 1, Slip 1 as if to Purl, K 2, Slip 1,* across,
end with K 1, Slip 1, K 1, K 3 (border).
Row 2: K 3, Purl all sts across row, K 3.
Variation # 4:
On 36 sts.
Row 1: (RS): K 3 (border), K 1, Slip 1 as if to Purl, *K 1, Slip 1,
K 2, Slip 1 * across; end K 1, Slip 1, K 1, K 3 (border).
Row 2: K 3, Purl all sts across row, K 3.
Gives a more symmetrical cloth pattern design.
