Aran-weight Handpaint Mushroom Cap
This easy hat makes great use of a single 100 g skein of handpainted yarn.
Use coordinating solid color for single round stripes and make a one-of-a-kind
piece of art for your head.

150 yds aran-weight (bulky) handpainted
Small amount of Contrasting Color yarn if desired
Size 9 24" circular needle
Size 9 double-pointed needles
1 Stitch Marker
ABBREVIATIONS FOR THIS GARMENT
K2Tog: Knit two stitches together
GAUGE
16 stitches and 20 rows to 4 inches/10cm.
METHOD
Using Main Color and circular needle cast on 84 stitches, place marker and
join in a circle, being careful not to twist stitches.
Work in K1 P1 rib for aprox 4.5" to 5".
Work in stocking stitch (all knit) for rest of cap.
Knit three rounds then work color pattern as follows:
1 Round CC
5 Rounds MC
1 Round CC
5 Rounds MC
1 Round CC
(If single color is desired, simply work 16 rounds.)
Begin Crown Shaping:
Switch to Double pointed needles when it becomes comfortable.
* K2Tog, K12 * repeat to end of round
* K2Tog, K11 * repeat to end of round
* K2Tog, K10 * repeat to end of round
* K2Tog, K9 * repeat to end of round
Continue in this manner decreasing 6 stitches each round, until 6 stitches
remain.
Cut yarn and weave end through 6 remaining stitches and pull tight.
Weave in ends.
Blocking
Wet hat thoughoroughly. I let mine soak in warm soapy water for ten or so
minutes.
Rinse twice, then block flat by placing crown of hat on counter.
Pat ribbing into shape and let dry. Be sure to store hat flat to retain shaping,
especially after a rain.
