I knitted my tube scarf after seeing one at a crafts fair. Pretty basic
concept that can probably be knit up in any gauge, sized to the owner.
I was on a knitting gift frenzy with them so many years ago, that I was
totally bowled over by the many requests for their directions. Since it
was so many years ago, the directions are somewhat loose, ( like I have
no idea what size circular needles I used) but I'm sure even the most novice
knitter can whip one up in a weekend!
Finished size:
28.5 x 18 inches
The size was determined as I was knitting it up; wide enough to fit comfortably over my face/head, and long enough so that when the top of the back of the tube was pulled over my head -hood style- there was not to much bunching at the back of the neck, and the bottom of the tube was comfortably long enough to be caught by the back neck of my coat.
The gauge is about 8.5 stitches to 4 inches
This is approximate. It could be looser or tighter depending on the
weight of the yarn.
Materials:
I used mohair but anything sorta hairy and soft would work as well.
Finishing:
Black marabou ( for those of you who don't know,) is the fuzzy very
light hairy stuff that comes on fancy bedroom mules that 1930 movie stars
wore. I bought it in a trimmings store in NYC like a skinny rope. You might
be able to get it in a fabric store or crafts store. It is not expensive.
I just cut the marabou to the size of the opening and whip stitched
it to the knitting.
