Knitted Bassinet Purse

Material:
Worsted Weight yarn and US 6 double pointed needles or a 12" circular
needle

Base:
CO 48 sts, place parker, join.

1 - Knit into front and back of next 2 sts (k f&b), k20, k f&b of next 4 sts, K 20, k f&b of next 2 sts. (56 sts)
2 - K f&b of next 2 sts, k24, k f&b of next 4 sts, K 24, k f&b of next 2 sts. (64sts)
3 - K f&b of next 2 sts (k f&b), k28, k f&b of next 4 sts, K 28, k f&b of next 2 sts. (72sts)

Begin basketweave pattern:
4 - Knit around.
5-7 - *P5, K3. Repeat from * around (9 pattern repeats.)
8 - Knit around.
9-11 - P1, *K3, P5. Repeat from * around, ending last repeat with P4.

Repeat rows 4-11 a total of 3 times. Knit one round plain.

Edging pattern is worked horizontally, incorporating the base stitches as it is worked.
CO 15 sts onto a new dpn. Knit back across to the last stitch, and knit this last stitch together with the first stitch of the base.

Begin edging pattern:
1 - K3, P12
2 - K1, yo, K2tog, K9, bring the yarn forward, slip the next stitch purlwise, bring the yarn to the back of the work, slip the same st.
back to the left needle and turn, leaving the remaining sts unworked, P12.
3 - K14, knit the last st. together with the next base stitch.
4 - K15
5 - P1, yo, P2tog, P9, slip the next stitch purlwise, bring the yarn to the back of the work, and return the slipped stitch back to the
left hand needle; turn, leaving the remaining stitches unworked. K12.
6 - P12, K2, knit the last st. together with the next base stitch.

Repeat rows 1-6 until all the base stitches have been worked into the edging. Now you can either bind off the stitches on the needle and
sew the seam, or graft the stitches to the cast on edge. Sew the bottom seam and side seam, if you have one.

Bassinet Hood:
Beginning on the right of the marker, pick up and knit 22 sts (11 on either side of the beginning of the round marker) in the row of
garter bumps formed when working the edging. Any row is fine, as long as you are consistent.
Knit across 18 sts, turn, leaving the remainder of the stitches
unworked (there is no need to wrap the stitches in the section)
1 - Sl 1, P11, turn
2 - Sl 1, K10, SSK, turn
3 - Sl 1, P10, P2tog, turn

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until all the stitches have been worked. The last row should be a purl row. Turn and bind off knitwise.
I chose to crochet a contrasting border around the bassinet. I worked a round of single crochet in the same row of garter bumps that I used
to pick up the stitches for the hood. I crocheted all around the circumference of the bassinet and across the bound off stitches. I
also crocheted a scallop stitch around the edge of the border, but it looked good without it as well.

Handles:
Crochet two chains or make two thin cord (I-cord will be too thick) each about 40" long. Beginning at the grafted end, thread the chain
into the holes made by the yarnovers, ending one hole before the beginning. Tie the two ends together, adding a tassle if desired.
With the other chain, begin exactly halfway around the purse from where you previously began. Again, end one hole before you began. Tie
these ends as you did for the previous handle. Weave in all ends, and add a 3" doll or bear, and the bassinet purse is ready to be used and
loved!
