CIC Dolly Pattern

I wanted to share my version of a really cute knitted doll. It ends up being about 7.5" tall, if made with DK or sport weight yarn.

In ss, you knit two long rectangles, flat, for the legs. Make them about 2" wide, and a total of 2 1/2" long. Start with the shoe color, then change to a sock color after an inch or so, and
change again to a skin color after another half inch. Do not cast off at top of legs, but keep live stitches on needles.

Put the legs side by side on one needle, and change to a white (or underpants color) and knit across the tops of both leg pieces.
Knit straight for about 1 1/4" for the panties, then change to a sweater color, (or stripes) and keep knitting for another 1 1/4".
Next row, to shape sholders, mentally divide the width of your knitted body inquarters. K2tog, twice at the one-quarter point, and again at the 3/4 point, then continue to the end of the row. (Those K2togs make the little shoulder bumps.)

Then you change to skin color again and keep knitting straight.

After the first row you (k2, k2 in the next st), across. Knit straight for about 1 1/4" and do k2 tog decreases for the next tworows. Then gather the sts and tie off, for crown of head. Stuff
and sew edges tog up the back. Gather a running stitch, in skin colored yarn, around the neck- just above sweater- and tie off for neck definition. Draw the tail ends inside and hide them, using a yarn needle. Knit two little tube arms (like the legs- with hand color, followed by sleeve color) and stuff and sew on.

Last, you need to knit up some little pants, overalls, or a skirt, and tie on at the waist. You can do hair and an embroidered
face. Or a hat, and some pigtails or just bangs sticking out. Sew hat on.

By varying the facial features, skin color, hair color and style, andclothing, you could make quite a crowd of these "little people".

All I ask is that you make at least one of these for charity, sometime, if you use the pattern for personal use. No commercial use allowed, please. Bonnie Evans 2003
