Roman Stitch

Dishcloth, Mug Rug, and Towel/placemat

 

Material: Cotton Yarn, Size 7 needles

ROMAN STITCH CLOTH

Size 7 needles (or whatever you like to use best)
Cotton yarn - one skein

Cast on 42 stitches.

Knit four rows.
Keeping three stitches on either side in garter
stitch, begin pattern:
Rows 1 and 3 (right side) - Knit.
Rows 2 and 4 - Purl.
Row 5 - K1, P1 across all stitches.
Row 6 - P1, K1 across all stitches.

Repeat these 6 rows nine times.
Then do Rows 1 and 2 once more.
Knit four more rows and bind off loosely.

ROMAN STITCH MUG RUG

Size 7 Needles
Cotton yarn leftovers
Cast on 24 stitches
Keeping three each side in garter stitch, knit four rows.
Begin pattern:

Rows 1 and 3 (Right side) - Knit
Rows 2 and 4 - Purl
Row 5 - *K1, p1; repeat from *.
Row 6 - *P1, k1; repeat from *.

Repeat these 6 rows five times. Then do rows 1
and 2 once. Knit four rows and bind off in purl.

ROMAN STITCH TOWEL or PLACEMAT

Size 9 needles (or whatever you like to use best)
Cotton yarn - one skein

Cast on 50 stitches.

Knit four rows.
Keeping three stitches on either side in garter
stitch, begin pattern:
Rows 1 and 3 (right side) - Knit.
Rows 2 and 4 - Purl.
Row 5 - K1, P1 across all stitches.
Row 6 - P1, K1 across all stitches.

Repeat these 6 rows 15 times.
Then do Rows 1 and 2 once more.
Knit four more rows and bind off loosely.
About 12 x 17 inches on size 9 needles -- you can adjust.
