Cell Phone Cozy   (with window & accessory outlet)

Everyone knows that cell phones take a beating.  After making and frogging Suss Cousins™ Cell Phone Case from her book Hollywood Knits, I decided to make some improvements.  This is a great last-minute gift for anyone and it knits up super fast!  Suss uses snaps to affix the flap to the body, doesn't have a slit in the bottom of the case for the battery charger or earpiece accessory, and only does 1 row of crochet.  Plus, her case is a bit bigger.  She suggests using 1 skein Muench Naturwolle ($$$) or any soft, bulky wool in a multicolor.

FITS most cell phones (i.e. Nokia 3595, any non-clamshell style cell phone about 4"x 2.5")

TO KNIT all done in stockinette/straight stitch

E-cast on 7 stitches.

ROW 3: K3,  Bind Off 1, K3 (making small buttonhole)

ROW 4: P3, CO1 (e-cast), P3

Work in stockinette stitch for a total of 26 rows (You’ve finished the flap!)

ROW 27: K1, M1, K6, M1, K1

Work in stockinette stitch for 21 more rows

ROW 49: K3, BO3, K3 (Making slit for accessory access on bottom of case)

ROW 50: P3, CO3, P3

Work in stockinette stitch for 14 more rows

ROW 64: K3 and place on stitch holder (or leave on needle to be worked later), BO3, K3 (making window)

Work 5 more rows stockinette stitch on first set of 3 stitches (can place on holder), cut yarn.

Work remaining 3 stitches for 5 more rows (starting with P3)

On the sixth row, P3, CO3 to join other column and P3.

Work 4 more rows stockinette stitch.  Bind off all stitches.

To FINISH: fold so that the top of window section meets where the flap increased to 9 stitches.  Sew up side seams.  Work 1 row of single crochet around the top opening and 2 rows of single crochet around the flap.  Weave in ends.  Place button on bottom of case to fit flap and sew on main body of case.

Voila!  1 finished cozy!
