Notes from Author: This month in the swap that I do on my own list, I sent a dishcloth I had in my stash of cloths to my partner. As I was wrapping it up, I kept thinking, "What a pretty pattern -- I wonder what design this is!" And, lo and behold (LOL), it was my own pattern!! I really like it!! :-) So it just dawned on me that I had not given a knitting pattern gift to the list in a couple of years. So I am sending it along -- my Ripple Stripe cloth and matching Mug Rug or coaster -- these make lovely gifts if you make them in sets of four or six. Easy and fast if you need a last minute gift. Please enjoy. :-)> |

Pattern:
RIPPLE STRIPE DISHCLOTH
Cast on 39 stitches.
Keep three stitches each side in garter stitch (I put markers on the needle to help me remember this).
Knit 6 rows garter stitch.
Begin pattern:
Row 1 (Right side) - K4, *p1, k7; rep from *, end p1, k4.
Row 2 - P3, *k3, p5; rep from *, end k3, p3.
Row 3 - K2, *p2, k1, p2, k3; rep from *, end last repeat k2.
Row 4 - P1, *k2, p3, k2, p1; rep from *.
Row 5 - K1, *p1, k5, p1, k1; rep from *.
Row 6 - Purl.
Repeat these pattern row 8 times (this makes a dishcloth about 8 1/2 inches square for me). The pattern is a multiple of 8 stitches plus 1 so you can adjust as necessary for a wider cloth, and make more repeats for a longer one).
Knit 6 rows garter stitch, bind off loosely.
This stitch comes from A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara Walker, page 8.
RIPPLE STRIPE MUG RUG

Begin pattern:
Row 1 (Right side) - K4, *p1, k7; rep from *, end p1, k4.
Row 2 - P3, *k3, p5; rep from *, end k3, p3.
Row 3 - K2, *p2, k1, p2, k3; rep from *, end last repeat k2.
Row 4 - P1, *k2, p3, k2, p1; rep from *.
Row 5 - K1, *p1, k5, p1, k1; rep from *.
