| Materials: Two skeins of Lion Brand Homespun (about 220yds, heavy worsted or bulky, or odds and ends equivalent, at least one of which is textured - semi boucle or otherwise. Aim for complete indestructibility in the washer and dryer. This blanket is not going to show off your knitting skills, it is going to be quick warm, useful, and hopefully used a lot. | Gauge: 3 stitches per inch on 10.5 US needles. I am a VERY loose knitter, and so we are aiming for a thick, heavy fabric that is not bullet proof. The softness comes from the choice of yarns, which is why I recommend LB Homespun. Probably the Red Heart equivalent, Baby Clouds, would also work. |
| Size(s): One size. | |
| Notes from Author: Knit list- This is something I make for new babies- it is a carseat blanket- small enough to put over the baby in the little car seat carrier without dragging on the ground, heavy enough to be warm and soothing, and useful later for being dragged around by a toddler , or putting dollies to bed. I always attach a little note explaining why this blankie is so small. I got a carseat blanket at my baby shower, from my cousin's mother, and I loved it. | |
Pattern:
Cast on 72 stitches holding two strands of yarn together (you will be working width wise) work in garter or seed stitch until it is 20 inches wide. Cast off. Work over your ends, if you are changing yarns, in the style demonstrated on the Philosophers Wool website in the two handed fair isle video clip, or weave in all ends securely, if that's your preference. You're done- takes me about two hours. Add a 5 hour baby sweater (pattern availible at woolworks.org), and you look like a genius.
