Eyelet Border Face Cloth
Eyelet Border Face Cloth
The body of this face cloth uses a nice stitch pattern called Purl-Twist
Fabric that I found in Barbara Walker's book, A Treasury of Pattern Stitches.
I added a simple eyelet border of yarn overs running up both selvage edges.
You can also add an optional crocheted lace edge if you want to dress up the
cast on and bind off edges.
Materials:
* Cotton - approx. 2 oz. (I used Coats & Clark's South Maid which is a
little finer than Sugar and Spice)
* Needles - Size that works comfortably with your yarn and makes tight
fabric. I think I used a size 5
Cast on 46 stitches (or an even number of your choice) and 8 stitches for
the borders. {I used a total of 54 stitches} I used a two-tail cast on.
The first four stitches of every row are always K2, yo, K2tog. This creates
the eyelet border.
1st Row: K2, yo, K2tog. *Purl 2tog but do not slip them off the left
needle; then purl into the first stitch again and slip both off the left
needle together. Repeat from * until you reach the last 4 stitches. K4.
2nd and 4th Rows: K2, yo, K2tog, then knit across to the end
3rd Row: K2, yo, K2tog. P1, *Purl 2tog but do not slip them off the left
needle; then purl into the first stitch again and slip both off the left
needle together. Repeat from * until you reach the last 5 stitches. P1, K4.
These four rows make up the pattern.
The even rows are always knit all the way across (after the 4 stitch yo border)
With the odd numbered rows, Row One will start the purl pattern stitch
immediately after the yo border, Row Three will have a single purl at the
beginning and end of the purl pattern stitches, separating them from the yo
border.
Continue to work in pattern until desired length is reached. Bind off. I
made a simple edging by crocheting about 6 chains stitches and looping the
chain over to the next bound off stitch, creating an edge of open, U-shaped
chains.
Happy Holiday!!!! Enjoy!
