KNIT FOOTIES

KNIT FOOTIES

Yarn: use two strands of acrylic yarn. One typical skein will make at
least one pair and maybe three of the footies. This can be a good use for
leftover acrylic yarn. One strand verigated and one strand matching solid
looks really neat.

Needle size: 6 for small, 7 for medium, 8 for large

Instructions are for child's size. Changes for women's and men's sizes are
in parentheis.

Cast on 23 stitches (29, 35). Work with two strands of yarn throughout.

Row 1: K 7 P 1 K 7 P 1 K 7 (K 9 P 1 K 9 P 1 K 9) womens size
       (K 11 P 1 K 11 P 1 K11) mens size

(suggestion: place a marker before the two P1's. In future odd rows, you
will then P1 after each marker)

Row 2: knit

Repeat these two rows until you have have 21 ridges or 42 rows.

TOE ROWS:
Row 1: P 1 *K 1 P 1, repeat from * to end of row

Row 2: K 1 *P 1 K 1, repeat from * to end of row

Repeat these two rows of ribbing for 20 rows.

FIRST DECREASE ROW:
work ribbing for 5 stitches (7, 9) *slip 1 stitch K 1 stitch pass slip
stitch over (PSSO), K 1, knit two together (that's a decrease on each side
of the one stockinette stitch). Knit 3 ( 5, 7) in ribbing, repeat from *
once then finish the row in ribbing. 19 (25, 31) stitches on needle.

Next row: work even or (work 5 (7, 9) stitches in ribbing, P 3, work 3
(5,7) in ribbing, P 3, finish row in ribbing)

SECOND DECREASE ROW:
work 4 (6,8) stitches in ribbing *knit two togeather, K 1, slip 1 PSSO,
work 1 (5, 7) in ribbing, repeat from * once then finish in ribbing.
15 (21, 27) stitches on the needle.

FINISHING:
Cut yarn leaving 12" to sew up the toe. Do not bind off the stitches, but
thread the yarn through the stiches, draw up tight then sew up the ribbed part.

Sew the back of the slipper (the cast on part) togeather. Flatten the sole
part to make a slipper shape.

You can place a pom-pom on top if desired but I've found that they are
uncomfortable if you have your feet under you so I make rosettes instead.

ROSETTES:
Cast on 80 stitches (probably 60 for child size)
Row 1: knit
Row 2: knit 2 togeather across
Bind off. Twist the spiral strip into a rose shape, sew togeather then sew
onto the slipper.

This is fairly easy and hopfully typed correctly. Let me know if you have
questions/problems.

Happy knitting!
