Little Christmas Balls.

Here's a little knit giftie perfect for the middle of the night before
Christmas when you run out of bows for gifts -
Little Christmas Balls.
You'll need:
a medium crochet hook
4.5 mm needles
knitting worsted weight yarns in seasonal colours ( a few yards per ball)
Blunt tapestry needle big enough for yarn
1. Using a crochet hook, chain 11 stitches.
2. Pick up 10 stitches, leaving 12 inches of yarn free before the first
pick up stitch.
3. Work four rows in stocking (stockinette) stitch.
4. Cut working yarn to about 12 inches.
5. Remove knitting from the needle.
6. Thread yarn tail on tapestry needle and run through stitches.
7. Pulling tight, run through the stitches AGAIN in the SAME DIRECTION
8. Remove crochet chain.
9. Thread reserved yarn on needle and run through the first row of stitches.
10. Pull tight and run through the stitches AGAIN in the SAME DIRECTION.
11. Stuff the ball with bits of the same yarn and sew up the free edges
from the bottom up.
You should now have two free ends at the top of the ball which you can
twist together to finish off.
I've used cheap Christmas yarns, red or green with gold metallic threads,
for these and they look quite cute on packages, usually in threes. You can
also stuff these with a little catnip for the kitties or use to decorate
Christmas wreaths. (Who needs miniature sweaters?)
