SIMPLICITY STITCH CHRISTMAS GIFT

 This is EASY and makes an interesting texture , suitable for summer tops. Best
knitted in fine cotton on fine needles.  You can intersperse 16 or 20 rows of this with
moss stitch  for 10, rows or so to give horizontal bands  for a tunic, but it also looks
good with a textured rib at the bottom.I dont know where it comes from originally.

 cast on a number of stitches which will divide by 5 + 2 extra stitches.

row 1 (right side)P2 * keep yarn at front of work. sl.1 purlwise, w.o.n. k2 tog ,  p.s.s.o.
the k2 tog, w.r.n. p2; repeat from* to end.
row 2*k2,p3; rep. from* to last 2 stitches, k2
row 3*p2,k3;rep. from* to last 2 stitches, p2
row4*k2,p3;rep.from* to last 2 stitches,k2
these 4 rows form the pattern.

 w.o.n. =wool over needle
 w.r.n. =wool round needle
 p.s.s.o. =pass slip stitch over
 slip 1 purlwise = put right needle through front of stitch on left needle
as if to purl it.
