Knitted Ski Hat

Knitted Ski Hat

Materials:

2 skeins sport weight wool in color of your choice 
various small amounts of other colors for desired pattern

size 5 U.S. short (16") circular needles

Pattern:

With 2 strands throughout, cast on 100 stitches (loosely).  
Knit 40 rows (or 2 times your desired hem width).  

Here is the trickiest part of this pattern (and its easy):
Fold the bottom caston edge to the inside and pick up one 
caston stitch as you knit each stitch in the next row 
(you are actually hemming your hat).

Continue knitting rows (add color patterning as desired) till you get 
the length you want.  Gather up the stitches and add a large 
pom pon to finish.  Or bind off, stitch straight across the top.  
Then push the two corners inside and tack together for a
more masculine version.
