Sugar Plums:
This is a pattern that I designed this year as a Christmas tree ornament
Sugar Plums:
Knitting needles 3 mm (US 2)
tension: using 3 mm needles and a single strand of knitting yarn 26 sts ==
10 cm (4 inches) in width worked in st st
I made these using wine coloured wool.
cast on 12 sts.
purl 1 row
increase 1 st in each st. (24 sts)
starting with purl row , work 13 rows
K2, K2 together across.
purl 1 row
K1, K2 together across.
purl 1 row.
K2. K2 tog, K2, K2 tog, across (9 sts)
gather by weaving wool through remaining sts. Break and tie tightly.
sew up seam on side of sugar plum. Leave cast on sts loose for time
being. Stuff sugar plum with stuffing.
Leaf: Use green wool and cast on 8 sts.
K6 turn.
K to end.
K 1 row then cast off.
Gather up the longest set of row ends and sew to the stalk.
Stem: Use brown wool and cast on 6 sts.
K1 row.
P1 row
cast off
With P side outside oversew row edges together. Then wind yarn tightly
round and round the stalk from one end to the other. Then sew yarn end
into stalk.
Place stalk at open end of sugar plum with leaf attached. secure stem to
top of sugarplum and then weave wool through open end of sugar plum and
draw up tightly. Secure.
I also marked the front of these sugarplums with 2 cross stitches in white
to show the "Light" on the sugarplum. These worked great in the tree because they
needed no hangers. They seem
to grab onto the needles and have held their place now for a week (thats
a miracle since I live in a house with 2 very active boys, a dog, and 3
cats. )
