tight fitting ski cap

Its a tight fitting ski cap design. Enjoy!

Gauge: 7 sts & 6.5 rows per inch (2.5 cm) on US size 3 (3mm) needles,
either 5 dpns or 16" circular and then switch to dpns.
Two colors instead of 3. Mine is maroon & slate blue. A skein of each (50
gr) is more than enough.

Fits man with 23 " circumference head. Knit in the round.

Cast on 156 sts in main color (M). Join round making sure stitches are not
twisted. K2, p2 for 4 rounds.
Round 5: Join in contrast color (C) and knit one round.
Round 6: k2, p2 in C
Round 7: knit in M
Round 8-10: k2, p2 in M
Round 11-17: Repeat rounds 5-10.
Round 18-20: k2, p2 in M
Round 21: Knit in M, decreasing 2 stitches during round. 154 sts remain.
Round 22-32: Work 11 round chart (14 stitch repeat star motif)

Rounds 33-34: Knit in M
Round 35: in M *K2tog, K12* repeat items in ** for entire round, 11 sts
total decreased for a remainder of 143 stitches.
Round 36: Knit in C
Round 37: k1M, *k1C, K7M, k1C, k4M* repeat items in **, end k3M
Round 38: As for above except insert motif in the k7M column.

Motifs:

MMMCMMM

(If you have the Folk Solks books - start with X motif first to work in
with the later decreases not the O motif as in the socks)

Continue following the pattern for the k7M column and at the same time:

Round 40: In the k4M column, k2tog in each column, total dec = 11 sts, 132
remaining, pattern now reads: k1M,*k1C,(motif) k7M, k1C,k3M* end k2M

Round 43: In the k3M column, k2tog in each column, total dec =11 sts, 121
remaining, pattern now reads: k1M,*k1C,(motif) k7M, k1C,k2M* end k1M

Round 46: In the k2M column, k2tog in each column, total dec=11 sts, 110
remaining, pattern now reads: k1M,*k1C,(motif) k7M, k1C,k1M*

Round 48: In the k1M column, slip 1st C stitch, knit M st tog with 2nd C st
using color C, psso (double decrease), 88 sts rem, pattern now reads:
*k1C,(motif) k7M*

Round 50: *k1C, ssk in M, k1C,k1M,k1C, k2tog in M* (66 sts rem)
Continue with motif but without the two outermost C color sts

Round 52: *k1c, ssk in M, k1C, k2tog in M* (44 sts rem)
Round 53: Now you have a choice. The socks have an alternating k1M,k1C on
the first row and k1C, k1M on the 2nd row for the feet. You can do this
here by doing *k1M, k1C* or you can continue the striped line of the
contrast color by knitting the stitches as they appear. Whichever you
choose, continue this color pattern for the remaining rows.

Round 54: *k1C,sl1, in M k2tog, psso (double decrease)* (22 sts rem)

Round 56: *k2tog in C, k2tog in M* (11 sts rem)

Round 58: *k2tog in C* You'll have one extra stitch. Pull yarn through all
stitches, pull tight to close gap and then secure end.
Add pompom if desired : )
