VIV'S LACY SOCKS

Okay, here's my second gift to the list. It's a pair lace socks that I made
based on the Girly Girl socks in the Interweave Press sock book, Folk Socks
the Stahl Socka Book 9, with some pattern help from Barbara Walker.

VIV'S LACY SOCKS

Materials:
Sock yarn (I used Blauband for the originals, Fortissima cotton for the Gir
Girl socks)
Set of 4-5 dpns, US size 2 (2.75 mm), or size to give gauge.
Gauge: 16 sts = 2 inches (5 cm)

SSK is slip first stitch knitwise, then second stitch knitwise. Place back
lefthand needle (purlwise) and knit the two stitches together through back
loops.
wyif: with yarn in front.
K tbl: knit through back of loopM1: Make 1 by picking up 1 and knitting through back of
loop.

Pattern: from B. Walker's First Knitting Treasury
Gull Wings
Rows 1 and 3: K
Row 2: K1, K2tog, yo, K1, yo, SSK, K1
Row 4: K2tog, yo, K3, yo, SSK

Cast on 54 stitches, join, being careful not to twist your cast on row. Wor
K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches. If you wish to do a K2, P2 ribbing, cast on 56
stitches, and decrease 2 stitches evenly across the round before you start
pattern.

ESTABLISH PATTERN:
*K7(pattern stitches), P2* seven times.
Continue in pattern until desired length (I usually make anklets, so my soc
are usually 4-5 inches long for the leg). I usually keep the beginning of tround between
needle 1 and needle 3. Otherwise, just keep in mind where the
begginning of the round is, because: On the last round, knit in the round i
pattern until the last purl stitch. Place this on needle 1.

DIVIDE FOR HEEL AND HEEL FLAP

K26 stitches. Slip next stitch purlwise, wyif. Turn. There are 27 stitches
the heel flap, and 27 stitches held for the instep.

Repeat these last two rows for a total of 26 rows (end wrong side row)
