Shrug

This is the pattern for the shrug which I made for my mother's birthday.

Materials:
6 skeins of Pingouin Mousse. It comes in 50 g, 155 yards to a skein. The yarn band indicates it's a sport weight yarn, 4" x 4" or 10 x 10 cm on size 6 US or size 4 metric needles, 20 stitches and 27 rows equals 4" or 10 cm. The yarn is 100% acrylic, with a brushed or mohair effect.

I used size 7 (US) needles

Gauge:
In stockinette stitch, the gauge is 5 sts = 1 inch.

Pattern:
I-Cord is done by knitting the first three stitches on both knit and purl rows and slipping the last 3 stitches purlwise on both knit and purl rows.

The pattern is a 4 row repeat, with 3 stitches each end done in attached I-Cord, which means you slip the last three stitches of each row as if to purl.

Row 1: knit to last 3 sts, end WYIF, slip 3 purlwise
Row 2: k3, purl to last 3 sts, slip 3 purlwise
Row 3: k3, *YO, K2tog, repeat from *, end WYIF slip 3 purlwise
Row 4: k3, purl to last 3 sts, slip 3 purlwise

Cuff
Cast on 46 stitches with size 4 (US) needles, k1, p1 for 4".

Change to size 7 needles, k 1 row and increase 1 stitch every 4th stitch while maintaining the first and last 3 stitches in I-Cord. 56 stitches.

Increase every first row of pattern increasing by 1 stitch the number of stitches between increases.

On the 7th increase you will have increased every 10th stitch and will have 122 stitches and a width of approximately 24".

Continue in pattern until desired length. Mine was approximately 48" before I started the other cuff. Work until approximately 7&1/2 " from end.

Then start the decreases, reversing the shaping.

Start with k 9, K2tog and continue with one less stitch between each decrease on the first row of pattern, until you have 46 stitches.

Purl next row, then change to size 4 needles and k1, p1 rib for four inches.

Sew the cuff and the sleeve for 3".
