Gauge:
5 sts per inch in stockinette
Sizes: Small (large child) Medium (average adult) Large (large adult)
Pattern:
Cast on 108 (116, 124) sts. Join in a circle, being careful not to
twist stitches.
Work in K2, P2 ribbing for approximately 7 (8, 9)", or desired length.
Shape crown - change to double pointed needles when necessary:
First decrease round: (K2, P2tog); repeat around = 81 (87, 93) sts.
Work in K2, P1 ribbing for 4 rows.
Second decrease round: (K2tog, P1); repeat around = 54 (58, 62) sts.
Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3 rows.
Third decrease round: K2tog around = 27 (29, 31) sts. Knit 1 round.
Fourth decrease round: K2tog around, end K1 = 14 (15, 16) sts.
Cut yarn leaving a tail about 8" long. Thread through stitches on needles, pulling up tightly. Fasten off.
Wear with cuff folded up about 1-1/2".
To make a larger or smaller hat, add or subtract multiples of 4 stitches.
