Crossed Lattice Washcloth


 
Materials:
1 skein Sugar & Cream (4 ply worsted weight cotton)
US #7 needles

Gauge:
Not too important

Pattern:
Cast on 60 stitches

Work 2 rows of garter stitch

Pattern stitch
Row 1: K3, P1, *slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in front of work, purl next stitch, knit stitch from cable needle, slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in back of work, knit next stitch, purl stitch from cable needle; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, P1, K3.

Row 2: K5, *slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in back of work, purl next stitch, purl stitch from cable needle, K2; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, K3.

Row 3: K3, P1, *slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in back of work, knit next stitch, purl stitch from cable needle, slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in front of work, purl next stitch, knit stitch from cable needle; repeat from * to last 4 stitches, P1, K3.

Row 4: K4, P1, K2, *slip next stitch onto cable needle and hold in front of work, purl next stitch, purl stitch from cable needle, K2; repeat from * to last 5 stitches, P1, K4.

Repeat these 4 rows for pattern until almost square. End with row 4.

Next Row: K3, *K2, K2tog; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, K3.

Next Row: K across.

Bind off.

It sounds a little tricky but once you see the pattern developing you can tell by looking which way the stitches should lap over each other.
