Materials:
Sport weight yarn Any color. 2 one ounce skeins
Pair of # 2 needles (2.75 mm)
Gauge:
9 stitches = 1 inch
12 rows = 1 inch
Pattern:
Starting at lower edge, cast on 45 sts and p 1 row, k 1 row. Now work
in stockinette st (k1 row, p1 row), keeping the first 2 sts in garter stitch
(k sts) and increasing one stitch at the end of each knit row until there
are
75 sts on needle, ending with a p row. Then work as follows:
1st row. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of row and inc 1 st at the end of row.
2nd row. Purl across.
3rd row. Repeat row one
4th row. P across to last 2 sts then purl 2 tog. Repeat the last 4 rows until 48 sts remain.
On every k row dec 1 st at beginning and increase 1 st at end of every row. On every purl row dec 1 st at the end of the row.
Continue in this manner until 33 sts remain. Now dec 1 st at beginning of each k row and increase 1 st at end of the same row (omitting decreases on purl row ) until tie measure 35 inches ( approx 89 cm ) through the center from point.
On next knit row, dec 1 st at beginning and increase st at end of row. On next purl row, inc 1 st at beginning.
Repeat the last 2 rows alternately until there are 42 sts on needle. Omit the decreases at beginning of each knit row and continue to inc 1 st at end of each knit row until there are 57 sts on needle.
Now dec 1 st at beginning of each k row and omit increases at end until 37 sts remain. Bind off.
Finishing:
Fold tie lengthwise and sew edges neatly together along center.
