I have been looking at the shapes of certain knitted things lately and thinking about what else they resemble. For instance, a mitten I recently made had me thinking of a fish, or, flipped the other way, a killer whale (orca).
My suggestion is to take a glove pattern you like and knit the cuff in a tealish green (not unlike the teal of my recent Wicked Teal Mittens!). Knit the main part of the glove in brilliant blue and the fingers in vivid yellow. Stitch an eye over the fleshy bit at the base of your thumb and a mouth just below your Lifeline near your wrist. Voila! You have a pair of blue fish ("boofish") for hands, to cheer you through the winter.
Incidentally, "Nancybelle" was my grandfather's nickname for his younger
sister, my late, totally great, aunt; and "Boofish" was her nickname for
my DGF, for reasons unknown. Auntie Nancy
passed away a couple of Christmases ago and I like to think that my
name for this pattern honours them both.
