Garter St Shawl by Rita Taylor

The sample shawl was knit to fit a Barbie doll, but you can get the general idea from the picture. The two long sides are the cast off edge.

Materials:
About 350gms medium weight mohair. 5.5 or 6mm needles.
The gauge is not really important.

Pattern:
All in garter stitch.

Cast on 3 sts.  Knit 1 row

Row 1: K1, yf, K1, yf, K1 (5 sts)

2nd  row (WS): Knit to end

Row 3: Mark the center stitch. Knit to within 1 sts of the center st [yf, K1, yf, Knit center stitch, yf, K1, yf] knit to end

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until your shawl is as wide as you want it (You may have to plave your stitches on a doubled piece of yarn so you can stretch it out and measure it)

Cast off loosely.

Making Up:
(Optional)
1. Trim with 1 row double (single in US) crochet and then 1 row crochet
chain loops along side edges. Put a big tassel at the point, or
2. Trim with a fringe

Pull it down lengthways when you block it, the holes will open out more
