Someone asked for a pattern for a bell to be worn on a lapel. Here's my best shot.
I used 3/2 cotton and size 3 needles and got a bell about 1" tall. You could use something bigger and have a tree ornament.
cast on 12 sts (leave a tail to sew up side)
Rows 1-6 stockinette stitch
R 7: k2 tog, k4, k2 tog, k4 (10 sts)
R 8: purl
R 9: k2 tog 5x (5 sts)
Run end through 5 sts and draw up.
Using the long end at the cast on row, sew up the side, turn up the bottom of the bell.
variation: you could begin with a few rows of garter stitch then not turn up the bottom edge. In this case, use a smaller gauge needle for these rows than you use on the subsequent rows; that will keep the bottom from flaring too much. Fiddle with it and see what you like.
Bobble (clapper)
c.o. 1 st (leave a few inches long tail)
k1, yo, k1, yo, k1 in that first stitch (5 sts)
sl 1 k 4
sl 1 P 4
sl 1 k 4
sl 1 p 4
k2 tog, k 1. bind off. K last 2 tog and bind off, leaving one
stitch. Clip yarn and pull through, leaving a few inches. Tie the cast
on tail and the bind off tail together to make the bobble round. Pull the
tails up through the bell and fasten to the inside at the top.
