Metallic Drawstring Pouch by Marian Lyall

I'm knitting an angora scarf/shawl (in a goldy-bronze colour) for a friend for Christmas and wanted something to put it in - rooted around and came up with metallic yarns that I have bought but never used.  So I made a pouch in the bronze that can also double as a very smart small evening bag (or change purse or pouch to hold special goodies or perhaps give a very special Christmas present).  Here goes:

Materials:
1 ball metallic yarn
1 set 4.5mm dpns

Double strand the yarn (so it is equivalent to worsted weight)

Cast on 52 stitches.

Knit every row for 1 inch.

Eyelet row: K1, (K3, yo, K2tog) repeat to last st, K1

Knit again for another 4.5 inches

Begin decreasing for bottom:
K1, (K8, K2tog) to last st, K1
knit next row
K1, (K7, K2tog), to last st, K1
knit next row,
Repeat decreasing in this manner until you have 7 sts left
K1, (K2tog) 3 times.
Cut yarn - and pull through stitches and secure.

Sew seam.

Take 3 lengths of yarn (18 inches or more) and braid.  Knot both ends and thread through eyelets. Make another, threading through from the opposite side so that you have 2 "handles". To close the bag pull on the handles and it's will magically close! Tie in a knot to secure while carrying.
