(Note from Ro: This is a VERY stretchy hat.  I am sure that if I tried it on, it would fit me. Very easy pattern to follow, and it is quite appealing to the eye)

Notes:

Because I am a lefty, I have a pet peeve about standard directions (e.g., "is it best if I k2tog as it says here, or should I really psso?"). As a result, here's a very brief glossary:

Rightward Decrease (RD):
Lefties: sl1, k1, psso
Righties: k2tog

Leftward Decrease (LD):
Lefties: k2tog
Righties: sl1, k1, psso

Materials:

16' US size 6 circular needle
size 7 dpns (set of 5, if you can get 'em)
2 oz of worsted weight wool (I used a  4 oz., 350-yd hank of Mountain Colors' Weaver's Wool Quarters in the variegated colorway Northern Lights--and I had enough left over to make a matching set of mittens)
tape measure, markers, scissors, etc.

Gauge:

5 sts and 6 rows to 1" over stockinette with larger needles

Size:

As written, this will fit a medium-sized woman's head; go up ordown in needle size as needed for larger or smaller heads

Pattern:

Using smaller needle, CO 106 st.
Rib K1 P1 for 1.5"

In next rnd, K 1 rnd, increasing 6 st (after every 17th or 18th st).

Change to larger needles.

Rnds 1-3: (P1, K12, P1) 8 times

Rnd 4: (P1, K12, P into F and B of next st) 8 times

Rnds 5-7: (P1, K12, P2) 8 times

Rnd 8: (P1, K12, P1, P into F and B of next st) 8 times

Rnd 16: (P1, K12, P1, P into F and B of next st, P2) 8 times

Rnd 24: (P1, K12, P3, P into F and B of next st, P2) 8 times
