Towel Topper


 

Materials:
small amount of 4-ply worsted weight yarn
1 pair of # 6 standard knitting needles
a size E crochet hook (for picking up sts from towel)
cotton bias tape in matching color and a button

Pattern:
Cut towel in half, bind cut edge with bias tape.  Using an icepick, create 67 evenly-spaced holes directly below bias tape.  With right side facing, pick up 1 st in each hole and slide onto a knitting needle.

K 67 sts.

Row 1 and all Odd numbered rows: Purl all sts.

Row 2: Knit all sts.

Row 4: SSK, K 63, K 2 tog - 65 sts

Row 6: SSK, K 61, K 2 tog - 63 sts

Row 8: *K 5, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 54 sts

Row 10: *K 4, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 45 sts

Row 12: *K 3, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 36 sts

Row 14: *K 2, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 27 sts

Row 16: *K 1, K 2 tog, rep from * across - 18 sts

Row 18: *K 2 tog, rep from * across - 9 sts

Work in rib (K 1, P 1) for 3", ending with a wrong side row worked.

Next Row: K 1, P 1, K 1, bind off 3 sts, K 1, P 1, K 1.

Next Row: P 1, K 1, P 1, cast on 3 sts, P 1, K 1, P 1 (buttonhole made).

Work 3 rows even, end wrong side

Next Row: K 2 tog, Rib 5, K 2 tog - 7 sts

Next Row: K 2 tog, Rib 3, K 2 tog - 5 sts

Last Row: K 2 tog, P 1, K 2 tog, bind off rem 3 sts

Making Up:
Sew button to front of towel opposite buttonhole.  Weave in any ends.
