Materials:
Lamb's Pride Bulky (85% wool/15% mohair) 125 yards/skein
Main Color 4 oz #97 - Rust
Color A small amount #14 - Sunburst Gold
Color B small amount #79 - Blueboy
Color C small amount #62 - Amethyst
Buying one full skein of each will result in 4 hats with different
main colors.
Size 10.5 circular needles 16" long (or use double points for the whole
cap)
Size 10.5 double point needles or size needed to obtain gauge !
Gauge:
3.5 sts and 4 rows per inch in circular knitting on 10.5 needles
Very important to assure proper fit
Pattern:
With main color and size 10.5 circular needles cast on 70 (76) sts.
Join and knit 6 rows (1.5 inches).
Purl one row (to stop rolling of brim)
Knit 6 more rows of main color (1.5 inches).
Attach color A and knit one row, then purl one row. Do not break yarn.
Attach color B and knit one row. Break yarn.
With color A knit one row and purl one row.
With main color knit 4 rows (1 inch).
Attach color C and knit one row, then purl one row. Break yarn.
With main color knit 3 rows (3/4 inch).
Attach color B and knit one row, then purl one row. Do not break yarn.
Attach color C and knit one row. Break yarn.
With color B knit one row, then purl one row.
Decrease for crown:
With Main color knit decreasing 6 (4) sts evenly spaced. 64 (72) sts.
Knit one round with Main color
With color A knit one round, and purl one round.
Size M/L only: (Skip these rounds for size S/M)
With Main color k7, k2tog around
Knit 1 round even
For both sizes:
K6, k2tog around (56 sts)
knit 1 round even
K5, k2tog around (48 sts)
knit 1 round even
Change to dpn on next round
K4, k2tog around (40 sts)
knit 1 round even
K3, k2tog around (32 sts)
K2, k2tog around (24 sts)
K1, k2tog around (16 sts)
K2tog around (8 sts)
Finishing:
Leaving a 8" tail, break yarn and draw through remaining 8 sts.
Weave in ends.
This pattern is a good pattern to use up scraps you have, or buy an
extra skein of yarn on your next sweater to make a matching cap.
