Kufi Style Cap

Here is my version of the popular "Kufi". I have knit several of these and have a sample on display in my shop. I am constantly being asked for the pattern so thought it might be a good offering for the giftlist, now that I've finally gotten around to writing it down. This cap works up
very fast and teens love it!   Roxi

Experience Level:
Easy Intermediate

Size:
One size fits all

Materials:
1 skein Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece
16" Addi Turbo Circular needles #8 (if desired)
Size 8 double pointed needles
Yarn needle

Gauge:
4 sts/6 rows = 1"

Pattern:
With circular needles, cast on 66 sts (or you may prefer to knit the entire cap using the double pointed needles). Join, being careful not to twist sts, and place a marker to mark beginning of rnd.

Row 1: P to end of rnd.
Row 2: K to end of rnd.
Rows 3 & 4: Repeat rows 1 & 2
Row 5: * K1, yo, k2tog*, repeat to end of rnd.
Rows 6 & 7: P
Rows 8 & 9: K
Rows 10 & 11: P

Repeat rows 4 thru 11 until desired length to crown is reached. End with
row 4. Switch over to double point needles, if you haven't already.

Decrease Rows:
Row 1: Ssk, knit 9 (repeat to end of rnd).
Row 2: K
Row 3: Ssk, knit 8 (repeat to end of rnd).
Row 4: K
Row 5: Ssk, knit 7 (repeat to end of rnd).
Row 6: K

Continue decreasing in this manner until 6 sts remain. Leave a 12" tail.
Draw through remaining loops and pull tight. Weave in the ends neatly.

Optional top knot: Decrease, as above, until 6 sts remain. K2tog around (3 sts remain). Place those 3 sts on one needle. Work these in I-cord for 3". Leave a 6" tail. Draw through remaining loops and pull tight. Weave in ends. Tie the I-cord in an overhand knot....like a pig tail.
