Materials:
1 ball Cleckheaton Faux Fur 117m/123yd or equivalent heavy worsted
weight yarn. For a smaller tube, use worsted weight. Whatever
you choose, choose soft!! Kids are comfort lovin' creatures, especially
around their necks.
Needles:
4.5mm/US6 40cm/16" circular needle
4.00mm/US6 40cm/16"circular needle
2 Stitch marker (contrast loop of yarn works well)
Gauge:
18sts 24 rows to 4"
Pattern:
This article is a graduated neck tube with a little extra "bib" to
be tucked into a coat. I have not "tested" this rough outline, but it's
very simple. My DD's range in size from size 6 to 12 and
all like it. They snuggle their faces into it and claim it's
as useful as a scarf. The finished neck opening is 16", and 9" in
length. My girls don't mind the extra length to tuck
in. I haven't tried double knitting weight yarn for a smaller child
with appropriate needle changes, but why not?
With larger needles, cast on 120 sts, join, and place marker at the
beginning of the round.
Work rounds in K1, P1 rib for 1", placing stitch marker after 60th
stitch.
Continuing in stockinette stitch on , start decreases as follows:
*K2tog, K to 2 sts before next stitch marker, SSK (slip two stitches
knitwise, and then knit the two together)* Repeat for second half
of tube.
Continue knitting in stockinette stitch (knit every row in the round),
decreasing four sts every inch as outlined above; until tube measures 5"
from beginning, ending with a decrease row.
Start K2, P2 ribbing and continue decreasing every inch for two more
inches. (7" from cast on edge.)
Change to 4mm needles for the remainder, work K2, P2 ribbing and continue
decreasing to 80 sts on needle.
Cast off when almost finished the ball of yarn in K2, P2 rib.
Please let me know if I can clarify anything!
