Sand Stitch Cotton Towel and Cloth Set


 
Towel and washcloths
Pattern Stitch:
Begin Sand Stitch on right side of fabric.

Rows 1 & 3: (RS) Knit all sts.
Row 2: *K 1, P 1 rep from * across row.
Row 4: *P 1, K 1 rep from * across row.

Cotton Towel:
Materials:
Any 100% cotton yarn - 4-6 balls (skeins) depending on the length you want
# 7 needles; tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Pattern:
Cast on 66 sts.
Knit 5 ridges (10 rows) garter stitch (showing on right side)

Row 1: K6, Start Pattern Stitch, K6

Work for 19", or length you want the towel, in Pattern Stitch, with 6 sts in garter Stitch each side for border.

Work 5 ridges in garter Stitch, to match beginning of cloth. Bind off on wrong side! Weave in ends, and Enjoy!

Cloths:
Materials:
2 balls (skeins) 100% cotton yarn and # 7 needle
tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Pattern:
Cast on 32 sts.
K 4 ridges (showing on right side), in garter stitch
K5, start Pattern Stitch, K5
Continue until cloth is square, or 8 rows short of desired length.
When long enough, K 4 ridges, bind off all sts on wrong side.

I've found that this pattern stitch looks good in a solid as well as a variegated colored cotton.
