Knitting Tips: Felting

  1. Felting White Yarn

1. Felting White Yarn

Joan Schrouder 3/8/03

I have a lot of off-white Lamb's Pride which I know won't felt well. I'm wondering if I dye it, will that make it feltable? Does anyone know what it is about the light shades that makes them not felt well?

They've been bleached which removes the scales on the wool fibers which are responsible for felting. Once they're gone, you can't put them back on, so dyeing won't make a bit of diff. However, not all light shades have been bleached. It's possible that your off-white is actually the *real* color of the wool, so it might felt all right. Since you already have the yarn, why not do a test run on a swatch?
